If possible purchase at Map at the entrance for convenience. The area may look small but don't be fooled with all of it's loop roads it becomes quite large. Tar and gravel roads are to be found in the park. Imfolozi Park situated in the South has two 2 gates to enter from. The Imfolozi is the larger of the two parks and offers numerous hides, loop roads and picnic areas. Centrally located in the Imfolozi is Mpilla Camp which offers various types of accommodation , curio shop, shop and a fuel bowser.

The Imfolozi has an enormous wilderness area from where one can journey on guided overnight walking trails. The Imfolozi is magnificent with it's open grasslands, bush and hilly topography. This area also may become quite congested during high seasons and patience is required at various sightings, however due to it's size it is sometimes less congested than it's counterpart the Hluhluwe Park.

Venturing in on a self drive or guided safari to the Imfolozi is splendid as one has the ability to travel too numerous watering holes or rivers along the Park. Sontuli is a great picnic area to enjoy while watching the wildlife waddle past in the River sometimes. Definitely travel to the Bhejane Hide for some super sightings. Please note that picnic areas are not fenced and caution must be taken at the various areas. Always remember traveling slower while in any park is far better than trying to get to a specific area or sighting.

During the summer months one may be treated to a tremendous sighting of Lions in trees this sighting usually occurs during the hotter months Dec to Feb. Please note that Gate Times Vary.

A sighting of something incredible, a Lion Chase, Elephants Trumpeting who know's what your safari will offer all we ask is that you have patience. Everyone wants to see that something special Don't keep the road blocked take some incredible pictures, video and move on please. Don't double park as management vehicles are moving about at all times. Keep the park clean, always remove any litter that you may have at any picnic areas.

Do not throw litter out of your vehicle. Do not get out of your vehicle to take a picture. Durban is situated South of the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, getting to the park is easy. Take the N2 national road and travel North. Distance is approximately km Central Durban.

It's a scenic drive along sugar cane and some marvelous Indian Ocean views. Once you arrive at Mtubatuba take the R towards Nongoma travel approximately another 28 km and you have arrived at the Nyalazi Gate Imfolozi Game Park. Yes without a doubt one can access both sides of the park within a single day.

However it will not be possible to enjoy all of the roads, hides and loop roads within a day. It is rather advisable to visit either side and make a day of it. That you one can experience the difference that two sides have to offer. Yes, the park is undergoing huge road maintenance presently. Please do note that both gravel and tarred roads do exist within the park. Due to large storms that the province may experience periodically roads may deteriorate and it is advisable to take note that river crossings may flood.

Various gate times do exist Summer and Winter. For Gate Times and Gate Fees. We were on a group tour and actually looking most forward to our day at Kruger, BUT we saw a lot more wildlife during our guided drive through Hluhluwe Game Reserve.

I suggest hiring a guide and riding in one of the jeeps for the best views and possibility of seeing wild game The guides are in radio contact and tell each other when something is spotted.

This is a beautiful and not to be missed game preserve. Early early morning is the best chance for seeing these beautiful; creatures in their natural habitat. The Hilltop chalets are situated high on the hilltop with spectacular views from the dining area.

The accommodation was excellent and our chalet was in the middle of a forest with plenty of bird life to be seen and heard. Due to increasing intensity of poaching in the Park, field rangers have been stepping up their monitoring and patrolling efforts in the area. This has included regular foot and vehicle patrols, as well as horse and aerial assisted surveillance.

Tracking dogs have also been helping to track and deter suspected poachers. It is clear that without the dedication and hard work of the staff in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park the numbers of rhinos being poached would be much higher. Without their efforts, rhino poaching would be far worse.

With high staff morale, we stand a much better chance of succeeding. We provide funding for vital equipment needed for the ranger teams on the ground, including foot patrols, vehicle patrols, Anti-poaching Units and the horse establishment in iMfolozi Reserve. Equipment such as camping equipment, monitoring and field equipment, vehicle tyres are under-funded and are vital to carry out anti-poaching and monitoring work effectively.
